Important Reminder to All Homestead Property Owners

If you have a Homestead Property in Hernando County and you have requested that your mail be forwarded temporarily, you must notify the Post Office upon your return.

Save Hundreds of Dollars! Apply By March 1, 2025 for Your Exemptions

The Property Appraiser’s Office is accepting applications for Homestead and Low Income Senior Exemptions. Don’t wait! The deadline is March 1, 2025.

  • New homeowners in Hernando County in 2024 should submit Homestead Exemption applications by March 1.
  • To qualify for the Homestead Exemption and the "Save Our Homes" Assessment Cap, the home must be the primary residence.
  • Seniors (65+) with a Total Household Adjusted Gross Income not exceeding $36,614 need to apply for Low Income Senior Exemption by March 1 if they haven't applied before.

Important Dates

  • January 1: Assessment Date for all property types.
  • January 1 – March 1: Filing period for Homestead and other exemptions, including Low Income Senior exemptions.
  • March 1: Deadline to apply for Homestead and other exemptions and Agricultural Classification.
  • March 2 – December 31: Prefiling period for next year's exemptions.
  • October: Value Adjustment Board hearings.
  • November: Tax Bills are mailed by the Tax Collector.
