Guidelines For Timber Land

Timber Land Classification

Timber lands may qualify for agricultural classification when used in a bona fide commercial forestry operation. Guidelines are set by Florida law and reviewed annually.

Minimum Size Requirement

Timber property should be a minimum of 20 acres in size, planted in pines or containing a predominantly natural stand of pines.

Management Plan

A forestry management plan must be:

  • Created and implemented for the property
  • Followed continuously as part of the land use
  • Kept on file with the Property Appraiser’s Office

Additional Guidelines

Larger tracts will be reviewed and approved based on:

  • The merchantability of the timber
  • Evidence of proper and ongoing management
  • Includes both hardwood and mixed timber tracts
